Artist Statement
Caroline Vincent is a French abstract expressionism artist whose work is a testament to the richness, messiness and vastness of what life is.
Based in the south west of France, but originally from Paris, her art and life are intertwined. Firstly, through her mental health and neurodivergence as an autistic and adhd woman, as it influences and guides her creative process. Secondly, through her imperfect activism journey as Nature, its preservation and its intersectionality approach informs her values in her life and art.
Her pieces are maximalist and have a sense of orderly mess which create a vibrant and energetic composition. Her creative process is 90 percent chaos and play and 10 percent structure allowing her before anything to reconnect to her childlike wonder before tying the various marks and elements together in the last stage of painting.
Her work is also rooted in sustainability as much as possible with an emphasis on the use of toxic and plastic free paints and the recycling of her waste. Everything, from the tools, framing and methods of shipping for example are thought of with the preservation of the planet in mind.
Her purpose through her works is to invite viewers to be ok with the chaos of their lives and allow more play and innocence in it by reconnecting to the simple things, from the beauty nature offers us to their own hobbies, and thus realize joy can be a strong act of resistance. Her works value diversity over uniformity, mess over perfection, trust over shame and the vastness of life over the curated details.
She’s also an analog photographer, loves to write various stories and can’t live without movies and shows. All these crafts enrich her always bursting need for creative expression and nourishes new painting ideas.
